A pizza delivery driver cashed in a Bitcoin tip that he held onto for 8 years
In a remarkable event that echoes the famous Bitcoin pizza story, a pizza delivery driver reportedly cashed in on a Bitcoin tip he received seven years ago. This event took place in February 2021.
The story begins on December 28, 2013, when a Bitcoin enthusiast, known by the username btcbible on Reddit, ordered a pizza. The customer offered the delivery driver two options for his tip: a $5 bill or 0.0069 BTC on a paper wallet. At the time, the value of both options was roughly the same, given the price of Bitcoin was $774.
Fast forward to 2021, the delivery driver reportedly resurfaced and contacted btcbible for help on transferring the funds from the paper wallet to a hot wallet. With Bitcoin’s price soaring to new heights, the tip that was once worth $5 had grown to approximately $400, an increase of more than 7,000% since the pizza was delivered.
