Bitcoin lead developer, Gavin Andresen, announces he will be visiting the CIA to discuss Bitcoin
On April 27, 2011, Gavin Andresen, a former lead Bitcoin developer, announced to the bitcoin community on the Bitcoin Talk forum that he was going to visit the headquarters of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Andresen intended to give a presentation about Bitcoin at the CIA headquarters as part of an emerging technologies conference for the US intelligence community. He believed that Bitcoin was already on the CIA’s radar and saw this as an opportunity to discuss its potential benefits.
In his announcement, Andresen expected that his visit would spark conspiracy theories, which is why he wanted to "get [it] out in the open". He also revealed that he would receive "a one-time fee of $3,000 to cover expenses and pay me for my time".
Andresen’s announcement coincided with the disappearance of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Nakamoto mysteriously vanished in 2011, around the same time when Andresen made his announcement.
