Bitmarket.eu, the first bitcoin exchange to accept euros launched

BitMarket, europes first bitcoin exchange launched on the 5th April 2011. The service allowed users to trade Euros (EUR) for Bitcoins (BTC). Bitmarket.eu provided a platform where the order book contained only sell orders, and buy orders were accepted only if there was a corresponding sell order at that price.

Bitmarket’s approach to handling the fiat currency aspect of transactions directly between trading partners was innovative. It allowed for a more decentralized and peer-to-peer nature of trading, aligning with the ethos of Bitcoin.
