Dish Network becomes the first subscription TV provider to accept bitcoin payments
Dish Network, the satellite TV provider, announced on May 29, 2014, that it would start accepting Bitcoin as a payment method, becoming the first subscription-TV provider to do so. They partnered with Coinbase, a popular online wallet, to process the payments and planned to begin accepting the cryptocurrency from the third quarter of that year, which starts in July.
This move made Dish Network the largest company at the time to accept Bitcoin transactions. The decision was part of Dish’s commitment to offer convenience and choice to their customers, including the method they use to pay their bills.
