Hungary Unveils Statue Honouring Bitcoin Founder Satoshi Nakamoto
On September 16, 2021, Hungary unveiled the world’s first public statue in honor of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. The statue was revealed in Graphisoft Park, Budapest, a location known for its significance to the tech industry.
The statue represents a general human figure, deliberately designed with a reflective face made of a special bronze-aluminium composite to ensure that every visitor can see their own reflection when looking at it. This design choice embodies the idea that “we are all Satoshi,” highlighting the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and the collective ownership of the software it introduced.
The initiative for the statue came from András Györfi, editor of Kripto Akadémia, Hungary’s leading crypto news site. The project quickly gained support from key players in the local crypto market, reflecting the community’s desire to pay tribute to the individual or group of individuals who gave the world an alternative to traditional financial systems.
