In March 2014, Newsweek's attempt to unveil Bitcoin's creator garnered significant attention, alleging Dorian Nakamoto as the mastermind behind the cryptocurrency. The magazine drew parallels between Dorian and Satoshi Nakamoto, citing shared traits like libertarian beliefs and Japanese heritage.

However, the most controversial aspect was publishing a photo of Dorian's residence, compromising his privacy. Despite widespread skepticism within the Bitcoin community, Dorian denied any involvement with Bitcoin, attributing a misunderstanding to the situation. Nonetheless, the incident led to a fundraiser initiated by early Bitcoin advocate Andreas Antonopoulos to support Dorian, generating over 102.23 bitcoins.
