The first online Bitcoin university course emerged as a response to the growing interest in the new technology. The "Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies" course offered by Princeton University. Launched in 2015, this course quickly gained popularity for providing a comprehensive overview of Bitcoin and the underlying blockchain technology.

Led by Princeton professors Arvind Narayanan, Joseph Bonneau, Edward Felten, and Andrew Miller, the course covered a wide range of topics related to Bitcoin. These included the mechanics of Bitcoin transactions, the cryptography behind blockchain technology, the economics of cryptocurrencies, and the legal and regulatory challenges facing the industry.

The course was designed to be accessible to a broad audience, catering to both technical and non-technical students interested in learning about Bitcoin and its implications. It consisted of video lectures, reading materials, quizzes, and programming assignments, allowing participants to gain a deep understanding of the subject matter and its practical applications.

The bitcoin course was also available online through Coursera.
