On September 3, 2019, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Luxembourg, part of the “Big Four” accounting firms, made a groundbreaking announcement that it would start accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment from its clients. This strategic move was set to take effect from October 1, 2019.

To facilitate this new payment option, PwC Luxembourg partnered with a local cryptocurrency exchange, although the details of the exchange were not disclosed at the time. The initiative was aimed at enhancing the firm’s services related to bitcoins, providing them with hands-on experience in managing and understanding the intricacies of bitcoin transactions, including anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) processes, public and private keys, and the risks associated with custodial solutions.
