On July 5, 2011, Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, expressed a sentiment that would resonate deeply with the bitcoin community. In a post, Nakamoto articulated the challenge of explaining Bitcoin to a general audience, stating: "Writing a description for this thing for general audiences is bloody hard. There’s nothing to relate it to." This statement highlighted the revolutionary nature of Bitcoin and the difficulty of conveying its essence using traditional financial paradigms.

At the time, Bitcoin was still a new technology, and its potential was not fully understood by the public. Bitcoin was not just a new kind of currency; it was a new kind of financial system, one that was decentralized, peer-to-peer, and operated without the need for a central authority.

New technologies are often overlooked or misunderstood such as the internet or the personal computer, which at the time were not taken seriously by the masses, but today the largest companies in the world are built on and heavily rely on these two technologies to operate.
