St Martins Church becomes the first church in the UK to accept Bitcoin donations

A photo representation of the Bitcoin event, St Martins Church becomes the first church in the UK to accept Bitcoin donations

The first church in the UK to accept Bitcoin donations was St Martin’s Church, Kentish Town, in the Diocese of London. This initiative began in February 2014, allowing parishioners and visitors to make donations using the digital currency. The church displayed a QR code above the traditional Victorian wall box for donations and on their website, which could be scanned to transfer Bitcoins directly to the church’s account
.

This move was part of the church’s efforts to engage with new technologies and communities, including the Bitcoin community. The funds raised through Bitcoin donations were allocated to various causes, such as renovation work on the church’s tower and repairs to community facilities in the church hall.
