In the quaint county of Hertfordshire, UK, a pioneering taxi service named Taxizen, operated by Daniel Hart, made history by becoming the world’s first taxi service to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. This landmark event took place in the early days of the cryptocurrency's adoption, when Bitcoin was still a novel concept to many and far from the mainstream financial instrument it is today.

Daniel Hart, recognizing the potential of Bitcoin to revolutionize the payment industry, decided to integrate this digital currency into his business operations. He saw Bitcoin as a solution to many of the problems associated with traditional currency, such as high transaction fees and the need for currency exchange for international travelers.

To incentivize the use of Bitcoin, Hart offered a 10% discount to customers who paid with the cryptocurrency.

Hart told Radio 4, back in April 2013 : "When I first heard about bitcoin a few years ago, I thought [it had the] potential to solve a lot of problems. I looked into it and thought it had a future."

The technology lover, whose taxi was equipped with free Wi-Fi for its customers, also ran a "Bitcoin coaching service", charging 0.25 bitcoin per hour to teach people the ins and outs of the digital currency.
