The bitcoin price surpasses $2,000 for first time
On May 20, 2017, Bitcoin surpassed the $2,000 mark for the first time. The price of Bitcoin rose as much as 2.62% during the session to hit a high of $2,019.
The surge in price was more than just a numerical threshold; it represented a doubling in value since the start of the year and nearly a 125% increase since hitting an annual low of $891.51 in late March.
The rise above $2,000 was attributed to several factors, including growing trader interest, as evidenced by surging transaction activity at major exchanges. This period also saw increased support from financial institutions experimenting with Bitcoin-based services, alongside a general stability following new regulations in China.
