In August 2019, the Dallas Mavericks, a professional basketball team in the NBA, made headlines by announcing that they would accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for tickets and merchandise. This move was spearheaded by the team's owner, Mark Cuban, who has been an outspoken advocate for Bitcoin.

The Mavericks partnered with BitPay, a leading cryptocurrency payment processor, to facilitate Bitcoin transactions. This integration allowed fans to use Bitcoin to purchase tickets to games as well as official team merchandise through the Mavericks' online store.

Mark Cuban expressed his enthusiasm for the decision, stating that it was a natural progression for the team to embrace new technologies and provide fans with additional payment options. He believed that accepting Bitcoin would appeal to tech-savvy fans and help to position the Mavericks as a forward-thinking organization.
