The first Bitcoin ATM card in Africa launches
On February 29, 2020, Patricia, a Nigerian firm, introduced Africa’s first Bitcoin ATM card. This innovative product, known as the PATRICIA BITCOIN ATM CARD, was a significant step in simplifying the interaction between users and Bitcoin. It allowed users to perform everyday financial transactions with the swipe of a card.
The Patricia Bitcoin ATM card provided a seamless entry point to the company’s services, enabling users to:
- Withdraw cash directly from their BTC or Naira wallets.
- Make Point of Sale (POS) and web transactions.
- Withdraw cash and perform transfers on any ATM machine, just like a regular bank’s ATM card.
This card was designed to function smoothly and quickly, without delays or network issues, and it was integrated into the Patricia wallet system. This system allowed users to store their bitcoins, save cash, and transfer funds to any wallet, both within and outside the ecosystem.
The launch of the Patricia Bitcoin ATM card was not only a technological advancement but also a move towards financial inclusion. It aimed to engage new customers, reach new markets, and create solutions that enable a more inclusive economy. Fejiro Hanu Agbodje, the Founder of Patricia Technologies Limited, emphasized the vision of combining digital infrastructure with existing card processing and banking infrastructure to drive the mass adoption of bitcoin.
