Australia witnessed the launch of its inaugural Bitcoin ATM, marking a significant moment in the country’s Bitcoin journey.

Two Australian firms, Australian Bitcoin ATMs and Krypto Currency Solutions, competed to be the first to install a Bitcoin ATM in Sydney’s CBD. Both companies confirmed that they would each install a machine within weeks, possibly days.

The orange Bitcoin ATM, resembling a regular banking ATM, was unveiled inside a Westfield mall on Pitt Steet in central Sydney.

Passersby could use the machine to Buy and sell Bitcoin & Exchange Bitcoin for cash.

Both ATMs were purchased from RoboCoin, the US firm credited with providing the world’s first Bitcoin ATM (which appeared in a Vancouver cafe in October). The cost of each machine was approximately $US20,000 according to RoboCoin’s website.
