The first item ever listed for Bitcoin

A photo representation of the Bitcoin event, The first item ever listed for Bitcoin

On January 24, 2010, a Bitcointalk Forum user named Sabunir made a notable post attempting to sell a digital picture for 500 Bitcoin. This transaction is significant as it represents one of the earliest known instances of digital art being sold for Bitcoin, predating the now-famous purchase of two pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

The forum thread included a discussion about the functionality of Bitcoin transactions, particularly regarding the ability to attach messages. Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, participated in the conversation, explaining the technical limitations that prevented the inclusion of encrypted messages in transactions. Nakamoto emphasized that while it was desirable to attach short messages, the visibility of these messages to the entire world posed privacy concerns.
