Oxford City Football Club was the first non-league football team to announce that it would begin accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment.

The innovative step was implemented at the RAW Charging Stadium, where fans were given the option to use Bitcoin to purchase tickets, food, and drinks. The initial rollout of this payment method was scheduled for the National League South opener against Eastbourne Borough.

This initiative was part of a broader multi-year partnership with CoinCorner, a company based in the Isle of Man that specializes in Bitcoin transactions. CoinCorner not only collaborated with the club to integrate Bitcoin payments but also became the back-of-shirt sponsor for Oxford City.

Justin Merritt, the director of football at Oxford City, highlighted the club's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies to ensure its sustainability and growth. He articulated a vision where digital currency could become a mainstream payment method within English football. Merritt emphasized that while adoption of this technology was not obligatory, the club believed it represented the future of transactions in the sport.

Daniel Scott, CEO of CoinCorner, echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that Oxford City's initiative would set a trend across non-league and Football League divisions. Scott stressed that the partnership was rooted in a mutual commitment to innovation, anticipating that digital currency would soon be a standard for sports fans and event attendees throughout the UK.
