The first phone-to-phone Bitcoin transaction using a Nokia N900 smartphone was a groundbreaking event that took place on December 7, 2010. This transaction was significant because it demonstrated the practical use of Bitcoin in a mobile setting, which was a considerable advancement at the time.
 

Two Nokia N900 smartphones were used. The Nokia N900 was known for its versatility and was among the few smartphones capable of handling such transactions at the time.

The user known as “Doublec” on the Bitcointalk.org forums managed to run bitcoind, the Bitcoin network’s reference client, directly on the Nokia N900. This was a technical feat because mobile phones at the time were not typically used for such purposes.
