The first US Presidential Candidate to own Bitcoin is RFK Jr according to financial records

In May 2023, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a Democratic candidate for president, stood before a crowd of bitcoin enthusiasts at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami. He declared, “I am not an investor and I am not here to give investment advice.” However, what Kennedy didn’t disclose to the audience was that his family had recently invested in Bitcoin.

On June 30, Kennedy filed a financial disclosure report. Buried on the twelfth page of the report was a revelation: a brokerage account held between $100,001 and $250,000 worth of Bitcoin.On July 7 it was revealed by the media and the situation raised eyebrows because Kennedy had publicly distanced himself from being a Bitcoin investor.
 

The timing was crucial. Kennedy’s speech occurred after the Miami conference but before the filing deadline. The question emerged: Could this represent a conflict of interest? Virginia Canter, the chief ethics counsel for watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, weighed in on the matter.

 

Initially, Kennedy’s campaign claimed that the Bitcoin investment belonged to his wife. Later, they corrected the record, confirming that it was indeed Kennedy’s investment.
