Twitter adds a special emoji to #Bitcoin

A photo representation of the Bitcoin event, Twitter adds a special emoji to #Bitcoin

Twitter added the Bitcoin emoji on February 2, 2020, when Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and CEO of Twitter, tweeted the newly added Bitcoin (BTC) emoji. This emoji automatically appeared after the hashtags #bitcoin or #btc. Dorsey’s tweet also tagged Unicode, suggesting that the consortium managing the character standard should introduce the Bitcoin emoji into the universal web standard.

The addition of the Bitcoin emoji by Twitter was seen as a nod to the cryptocurrency’s increasing mainstream acceptance. It also provided a visual representation that helped in promoting Bitcoin on social media. The introduction of the emoji coincided with a period when Bitcoin was gaining significant attention and adoption, further cementing its status as the leading cryptocurrency.
